About our cruises from Southampton

Our no-fly cruises from Southampton let you explore every inch of northern Europe, from the fjords to Finland. You won’t find itineraries to Italy, the Canaries or the Caribbean here, because these sailings are all about gleaming glaciers, Baltic capitals and mountain-cuddled towns. As well as Norwegian-focused holidays, our Baltic cruises from Southampton take you to cities, like Oslo, Tallinn and St Petersburg.

If you book one of our Southampton Cruises, you’ll get to sail on one of our newest, All Inclusive ships – like Marella Discovery and Marella Explorer – as they take it in turns to cruise from the UK for 8 to 14-night itineraries in September and October 2018, and September 2019.

As for Southampton itself, it’s a port city through and through. But it’s not all cruise ships. It’s also home to an interactive model of the Titanic, a shiny harbourfront shopping complex and the biggest working steam ship in Britain. Plus, you can swap blue for green in the neighbouring New Forest.

Car: Southampton Port has two major motorways at its fingertips. The M3 and the M27 are both within half an hour’s drive – just follow the directions to Southampton. With a hip café and bar culture, Gothenburg lives up to its nickname, ‘Little London’. But, that’s where the similarities end. All canals, grand buildings and wide boulevards, it gives Stockholm a run for its money in the Swedish beauty stakes. The port city’s population only tops half a million, so it’s retained its relaxed, small-town feel. And it manages to strike the perfect balance of restaurants, shops, museums and parks.

• The best way to explore the city is on water. Paddle past sights like the ship-like opera house on a guided kayaking tour, or hop on a Paddan sightseeing boat.
• Head to the Konstmuseet art gallery and feast your eyes on masterpieces by the likes of Rembrandt, Rubens and Van Gogh.

Kiel’s tucked inside a 17-kilometre-long fjord and sits alongside a 98-kilometre-long canal. So it’s no wonder this German city’s so water-mad. You’ll see nods to its seafaring character everywhere you turn – whether it’s the 72-metre-high naval memorial, the annual sailing festival or its waterfront promenade, which takes in boathouses, parks and a seal aquarium. Head inland, meanwhile, and you’ll find modern streets filled with shopping centres and restaurants.

  • Poke around the control room, bunks and torpedo tubes of the U-Boat U-995. This German submarine-turned-museum sits on a beach at the opening of the fjord.
  • Try the city’s culinary delicacy, kieler sprotte. Sprats, similar to herrings, are smoked in a wood-burning oven, and traditionally eaten whole – bones and all.
  • Dip into the boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants along Holstenstraße – Kiel’s car-free shopping mile.

• Flex your credit card in the city’s legendary shopping districts. Then spoil yourself rotten with a traditional Swedish massage in a gorgeous Art Nouveau spa.
• Hop on a canal boat and explore Stockholm from the water. At least 50 bridges criss-cross their way around the city, linking 14 islands.

Across the water from Finland lies this captivating World Heritage Site, the capital city of Estonia. Without doubt, Tallinn is one of Europe’s most remarkable architectural havens. The old town is a magnificent jumble of Medieval walls and turrets, spires and winding cobbled hills. Don’t forget your cameras for this one.

• Start off with a trip to Toompea. Here you’ll find the beautiful Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral and Toompea Castle, where Estonia’s parliament sits.
• Follow the twisting cobbled streets that open out on to Town Hall Square, whose pièce de résistance is Europe’s oldest surviving Gothic town hall. Look out for the building’s 16th-century weathervane. It depicts Old Thomas, the Medieval warrior and guardian of the city.
• When you’re ready for a rest, pull up a chair in one of the city’s open-air cafés and taste Saku, the local beer.

• Tick off a rich list of sights, including the gilded cupola of St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Palace Square with its beautiful Baroque Winter Palace.
• Discover the Hermitage, home to an astounding collection of three million pieces of art. Feast your eyes on works by grand masters like Leonardo Da Vinci, Titian, El Greco and Rembrandt.
• Enjoy a magical night at the ballet at the Conservatoire Theatre, which belongs to the oldest musical school in Russia.
• Looking for something a little more contemporary? Then hit the shops along Nevsky Prospect and give the vodka bars a whirl.

This bustling market town in the west of Denmark has got an interesting past that’s well worth unravelling. Its narrow streets are made for strolling so grab a map, pack your camera and get ready to explore. If that sounds too much like hard work, you’ll be glad to hear the town’s surrounded by beaches. Or perhaps you’ll prefer a trip to Copenhagen, where shops, sights, museums and galleries conspire to steal your heart.

• Lace up your walking boots and get to know Kalundborg. Lose yourself in the old part of town, whose slender streets are crammed with houses up to 500 years old. And don’t miss Kalundborg Church, whose 5 towers spear the skyline.
